In crafting Smokiverse, Ardbeg employed a high-gravity mashing technique essentially using less water in the mash tun to create a more concentrated wort rich in sugars and flavor-bearing esters. This brewing-inspired process (a first for Ardbeg) intensified fruity and sweet notes in the spirit, yielding tropical fruit and bubblegum-like esters alongside Ardbegs hallmark peaty smoke. After fermentation and distillation, the whisky was matured in ex-bourbon barrels to enhance its character.
