Named with the 2003 vintage, this cuve did not have a name before. It was simply our “generic” cuve. A blend of several localities, it is an entrance to discover the estate and the Syrah in Cornas. To reach its fullness, Les Chailles will require fewer years of ageing than our other Cornas cuves.

Reduced sulphitage – SO2total 52 mg/l (authorised in organic farming: 100 mg/l).

A vintage on the opposite footing… After an episode of too much mild winter in February, the historic frost of 8 April hit hard our plots of Saint-Pray (Ongrie, Prieur) as well as the lower parts of Cornas. In the end, we deplore a 50% loss in Saint-Pray, with only 2 cuves produced: Harmonie and Fleur de Crussol, of very good quality, marked by the freshness of the vintage. On Cornas, the hillsides partly compensated for the loss due to frost, but the very rainy (896 mm/m) and late season (harvest from 13/09 to 02/10) offered an “old-fashioned” vintage, fresh and chiseled, with alcohol levels falling sharply, but less marked differences in alcohol/tannin maturity than in hot and dry years.

93 points Wine Spectator

A meaty, sanguine version, with a lot of floral perfume as well. Black cherry and boysenberry flavors merge with notes of iron and well-integrated toasty oak spice. Supple and well-knit, with tangy acidity driving tension and length. Best from 2025 through 2035. 1,200 cases made, 150 cases imported.

93 points James Suckling

Lots of blackberry, cassis, roasted meat and violet aromas on the nose. Medium-bodied with fine, firm tannins. The volume is impressive for the 12.5% alcohol content. Creamy with lots of succulent cherries and bright acidity on the palate. Vibrant finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold. (5/22/23)
