Stranahan’s Diamond Peak 2024 Rum Cask Release is a Colorado cowboy gone Caribbean roguesingle malt swagger with a sweet island wink and a molasses-laced punch.
45% ABV, 750 ml, Batch 3, From Colorado, finished in prized varietals of rum casks from the greater and lesser Antilles of the Caribbean: The Dominican Republic, Barbados, and Martinique., cut to proof with Rocky Mountain Water
“Toasted vanilla and chocolate-covered raisins tussle with a bit of malty and tropical funk, giving this a curious and inviting nose. The palate is more straightforward, with brown sugar, vanilla fudge, butterscotch, and toasted coconut. The sweeter notes are well-tempered by dry oakiness. The finish borders on bitter, but the whiskeys winning nose and palate outshine the weaker finish.” Whiskey Advocate 91 Points
Diamond Peaks 3rd limited annual release highlights flavors that transcend traditional whiskey. Using a marriage of 6-9 year Stranahans American Single Malt Whiskey, the liquid was finished in prized varietals of rum casks from the greater and lesser Antilles of the Caribbean: The Dominican Republic, Barbados, and Martinique.
DISTILLATION: Distilled from 100% malted barley and handmade in small batches at the Stranahans distillery, Colorados first legal distillery since Prohibition.
MATURATION: A marriage of six to nine-year-old Stranahans American Single Malt Whiskey, initially aged in virgin American Oak Barrels.
FINISH: Upon completion of the aging process, the whiskey is transferred into prized varietals of rum casks from the greater and lesser Antilles of the Caribbean, where the liquid is finished. This unique process yields a taste that is rich and complex, blending a myriad of flavors to create an exceptionally smooth profile.
CUT: Cut to proof with pristine Rocky Mountain water and non-chill filtered.
NOSE: Dried apricot and creme brulee.
PALATE: Bright tropical fruit notes against a brown sugar backdrop.
FINISH: Viscous, nuanced sweetness with a hint of cola spice.
