Desert Door Texas Sotol is a distinctive wild-foraged spirit that bridges the gap between agave distillates and mezcal, channeling the rugged flavors of the West Texas landscape. It offers an approachable herbal brightness, layered earthiness, and a smooth finish that invites sipping or mixing in refined cocktails.
Made in Driftwood, Texas, Desert Door is committed to a ranch-to-glass philosophy: the sotol plants (Dasylirion texanum) are wild-harvested across West Texas, with no cultivation or artificial inputs.
The sotol plant is not an agave it belongs to a different genus so while the spirit shares some sensory qualities with tequila or mezcal, it is in a distinct category of its own.
Their process evolved through experimentation: cooking, fermentation, and distillation techniques were refined to produce a clean yet complex spirit that honors tradition while being modern in execution.
The flagship Original version is unaged clear and bright but Desert Door also produces aged (oak) and special editions to explore deeper layers of flavor.
Nose:
Fresh desert herb, grassy green notes, vanilla bean, and subtle hints of tropical citrus zest mingling with raw earth.
Palate:
The body is silky with balanced vegetal drive: wild herbs, green leaf, light toffee or caramel, gentle citrus pith, and soft minerality. Herbal sage or eucalyptus may appear mid-palate, giving nuance.
Finish:
Custard-smooth and moderate in length. The vegetal and earthy tones linger with a touch of vanilla and desert spice, without overt burn.
