GlenDronach Ode to the Valley attempts to showcase the lighter, fruit-forward dimension of Glendronachs signature stylecombining sherry and port cask maturation at 46.2% ABV. Debuting as part of the 2024 Masters Anthology, this is a nonage-statement Highland single malt.
Its matured in a blend of Pedro Ximnez or Oloroso sherry casks and ruby Port casks from Portugals Douro Valley, aiming to fuse fruity richness with sherry complexity.
Aromatics open with bright red berries (raspberry, strawberry jam) and blackcurrant, alongside rose petal florals and raw barley sugars. Subtle notes of ginger, cinnamon, cured meat, and black pepper emerge with time.
The palate is spirited and vinous, with syrupy red fruit flavorsnotably currant, raspberry, and blackberriesbrightened by lemon juice, cocoa nibs, and barley sugars.
Finishes short to medium: fruit sweetness lingers briefly, with faint echoes of chocolate, spice, and residual oak.
